His Words (of the day): on Adultery, Divorce, and a Promise
Mattityahu (Matthew) 5:27-28: You have heard that our fathers were told, "Do not commit adultery." But I tell you that a man who even looks at a woman with the purpose of lusting has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Many times we see now a commercial that advertises women in nothing. We have teenagers (even from 'clean' television such as Disney Channel) who dance sexily in a dress that looks more like a t-shirt with a belt. I even saw a commercial for a sort of MP3 player where children were dancing lewdly. It is hard to not think about how sexy something is on the TV when you see it constantly. We are teaching our children that it's okay to lust.
I want to find a channel where a child (or adult) can still watch entertaining TV (it doesn't always have to be a Christian lesson) without being introduced to this kind of lewdness. The people who made Spongebob have tried very hard to keep things wholesome. They occassionally have something a bit off, but for the most part is very clean.
Mattityahu 5:31-32: It was said, "Whoever divorces his wife must give her a get (a child)." But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, makes her an adultress; and that anyone who marries a divorcee commits adultery.
Divorce has become accepted in the church, despite these words. We are up to nearly 50% of women and men getting a divorce each year. So-called Christians state that their divorce is better than living with someone you don't love. Well guess what? You loved him enough to marry him a year ago. You loved him enough to produce a child with him. Sometimes you have to put a little effort into a marriage to make it work.
The problem with our society today is that we don't want to use effort. And we certainly only care for what makes us feel good in the now. And we definitely don't have to deal with the consequences. Guess what? You don't have to deal with the consequences. You can enjoy the now. You don't have to put effort into anythings. But that's here on Earth. There WILL be consequences later.
Mattityahu 5:33-37: Again, you have heard that our fathers were told, "Do not break your oath" and "Keep your vows to Adonai." But I tell you not to swear at all--not "by heaven" because it is God's throne; not "by the earth" because it is His footstool; and not "by Yerushalayim," because it is the city of the Great King. And don't swear by your head, because you can't make a single hair white or black. Just let your "Yes" be a simple "Yes," and your "No" be a simple "No"; anything more than this has its origin in evil.
About a month ago I told a friend from the internet that I was buying him something. (And I hope he'll forgive me for telling this story, but it fits quite well.) But, I needed his snail mail address. He said "will you promise that it won't be something dangerous?" I said "I will not promise. The Bible has told me not to. If you believe my truth in my faith, believe that I won't hurt you." Though he isn't religious, he agreed. And he's quite pleased with his present.
Though many non-believers believe Christians to be a bit off at times, if you show you're true to the bible, they will trust you. And this influences them greatly. I have had many non-Christians ask me many things about the bible because I have told them something I WON'T do because of the Bible. Not because of something I will do. If I were to testify in court, I would not 'swear to tell the truth.' It is against my religion. As I have learned this verse, I have been given the priority to do as the Bible says, not as man says. My friends, even the non-religious ones, admire and learn from this. And we are here to teach. Not just those who are ministers, or those who hope to become ministers, but every single Christian.
I hope I've helped someone learn something today. And I pray you will pass on the wisdom of Jesus as he spoke the lessons of the Lord. Tomorrow, I wish to discuss another lesson I hold close to heart: Don't parade your acts of righteousness. You have earned your reward by doing so. I will discuss this further tomorrow.
God bless.

Thanks for being bold in saying the truth. Sounds like it is from the love of God in your heart. We need the truth spoken in love. More people in the church would be genuine and set free from the bondages many of us should not be in. We are salt and light, by His Spirit in us we can love and live as Hes commanded us to. As for me, it is much harder to live in sin than the peace I get from when I do whats God tell to from His Word. It is a joy to serve Him and others each day. Its not always easy, but its always worth it and so much more!!! In Gods love, Ana (John 15:12)
@jesusluvskeeter66 - I wasn't always so tempted to be so blunt about my religion. I'll have a lot to answer for. But each day you might learn a bit more about me by reading His Words of the Day. I'm glad you enjoyed. (What made me start here is the constant talk of divorce everywhere, and this is the first verse about divorce that I really learned.)
